The Audio Psycho Phonology (APP) is a method which stimulates listening skills that was created and developed by ENT Doctor A. Tomatis.

This approach requires listening to specific music or other audio sounds arranged by a complex digital mechanism called "digital ear" to create an optimal listening process.

The "digital ear" plays on different aspects of the music:
  • Filtering Sounds - Selecting certain frequencies according to the requirements of the patient, with an emphasis on high filter tones.
  • Regulating delays or precession of the sound stimulation to adjust rhythm of perception, among other between bone perception and air perception.
  • Orientating the music from one ear to the other, focusing on the ear with the biggest problem if needed.
  • Accentuating preferential frequencies zone according to a specific language or need.
  • Accentuating the stimulation on the body at an emotional or cognitive level.
  • We also do some "active work", using microphones and regulating the feed back to enabling the person to work on auditory processing and vocal control.
All these features combined with some personal adjustment will create an optimal listening process.

Based on Tomatis law "we can produce only what the ear can hear", working on the listening skills that will open doors to learning new languages, improve speaking skills, singing, boosting creativity, concentration and motor skills.

Listening is much more than hearing. To listen means to pay attention to, to be open to or to be conscious to. It’s crucial for everyone to be able to listen to themselves and to others. Mastering the balance of these will make us feel harmonious and successful.

By listening, we hear so much more than just sounds. Listening means being focused in class, at work, being able to select specific information, being able to listen and understand other people’s point of view and express your own. We should be able to understand sounds in our own languages, sounds in foreign ones and be able to reproduce them. We should be able to respond to calls, voices and control impulsivity or reaction to sound, be open to the environment, socializing, react fast enough to instructions, remember them and act on them. You should listen to your body, your needs, desires, inner voice, inspiration and intuition.

The ear is also the center of balance; vestibular so it has a deep connection with our body awareness, motor skills, coordination, fine motor skills, posture, and self assurance.

Another function of the ear not well known is that it reenergizes the brain. It is the sense organ with the most nerve cells and the earliest organ to mature in the human body. The inner ear being strongly connected with the brain, stimulates those cells, and reenergizes the brain.

Combining neuronal connection with specific music (especially high filtered tones), improves stimulation of the brain, stimulating general energy, tonus of the person and having a deep impact on concentration or attention abilities, which makes this method very effective in cases of ADHD or attention difficulties.

We use a special headphone "muni" with a vibrator and "ecouteur". The vibrator is used for the condition conduction = listening through your bones or inner self. This has a deep impact on the body awareness and regulates impulsivity. The vibrator is located on the top of the scalp which has a deep impact on the development of the higher self (chakra sasara), and is a door to the subconscious. The "ecouteur" is for the air conduction, which is the connection between us and the outer world.

We need to be open to both to be balanced. The digital ear will make the music shift from one mode to the other according to specific settings. These are based on theoretical research and your personal needs and listening patterns.

Points to be developed:
  • Neurologic or physiologic explanation of the music effect on the ears and the repercussion on the brain from a scientific point of view.
  • Description of a listening session.
  • Material
We are using the latest technology and therapeutical adaptations, which very few centers in the world are using this tools which require specific licenses and qualified staff.
